President Obama outlined his Afghanistan Policy yesterday in a speech delivered at West Point. In typical Obama fashion, the speech was riddled with grandiose adjectives and long, wordy descriptions. If one can brush past all of the tinsel & ornamentation, we can find the base of this speech.
In some instances, I will include direct quotes from the speech – which are, as I mentioned, long & wordy. I will do this in order to uncover meanings, as well as give my own personal opinion.

Early in the speech, Mr. Obama attempted to show how our Government lost focus in Afghanistan by giving troop level comparisons with Iraq. The President stated:
“”When I took office, we had 32,000 troops in Afghanistan compared to 160,000 in Iraq at its peak.”"
This is could be extremely misleading. Two questions must now be answered:
#1 – How many troops were in Iraq when you took office?
#2 – How many troops were in Afghanistan, at its peak?
I admit that I do not know answers to these questions, but those answers may show that The President’s attempt at a ’stark contrast’ in troops levels may not really be all that stark

One statement made by The President bothered me as much as a sledge-hammer to the pinkey toe would. Again, to quote Mr. Obama:
“If I did not think that the security of America and safety of The American People were at stake in Afghanistan, I would gladly order every single one of our troops home tomorrow.”
Was anyone else struck by that? …Tomorrow?? Really?? Mister President, why not IMMEDIATELY? Why would you even contemplate a delay in bringing them home? Perhaps I am wrong here – which is entirely possible.

As far as addressing the Actual Afghan policy goes… that was a miniscule amount of time in the speech. I am okay with the decision to send 30,000 troops to finish the job. However, I see difficulty with The President’s timeframe of beginning troop withdrawl in July 2011 – and no, the timetable is not the issue.
Thus far, Mr. Obama’s estimations & deadlines for policies and procedures have been grossly miscalculated. We were told Gitmo will be closed next month (Jan 2010). We were told that Congress would have Healthcare reform on B.O.’s desk how many different times? Now this?
Pardon me Mister President, but the only way the July 2011 troop retraction will actually happen is if You, Secy. Of State Clinton, Your Administration, & Congress BUTT OUT!! Let those men & women in the Military do the jobs they were trained to do. Perhaps then it will be a realistic goal.

Among the remainder of the bloated rhetoric, there are a handful of statements I must make mention of. The first made me laugh out loud – literally:
“[Our monetary assistance will] Support Afghan ministries, governors, & local leaders, but combat corruption and deliver for the people. We expect those who are ineffective or corrupt to be held accountable. We will also focus our assistance on areas, such as Agriculture, that can make an immediate impact on the lives of the Afghan people.”
Wow. Pardon me, but how in the hell can you say that? Mister President, We The AMERICAN People don’t even get that from YOU! We expect YOU to hold accountable those who breached White House security & protocol and allowed unapproved persons entry to the State Dinner you hosted. We expect YOU to hold accountable our own corrupt citizens – not make them Secretary Of The Treasury. We expect YOU to not let the Ineffective members of Congress give themselves a $5,000 COL raise while giving the Shaft to Seniors on Social Security!!

Mister Obama also felt the need to point out that by the time he took office, the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan cost almost $1 Trillion – or $1.25 Billion a year. Hmmm…. hey, how much do your Cap & Trade and Healthcare bills cost? Enough said.

The final piece I will adress is the lengthiest quote, but it adresses our American Economy. The quotation is as follows:
“In the end, our security & leadership does not solely derive from our Arms. It derives from our people.
From the workers & businesses who will rebuild our economy. From the entreprenuers & researchers who will pioneer new industries. From the teachers that will educate our children, & the service of those who work in our communities at home….”
President Obama, you are exactly right. These ARE the people who drive this nation. Now, it is obvious you understand this, so ‘Let ME Be Clear’ – Leave Us Alone!!
- STOP encouraging government intervention into our lives!
- STOP your attempts to redistribute wealth from those who worked, innovated, taught, and pioneered!
- STOP taking over sectors of the Capitalist Free Markets that allowed America to rise!
- STOP mismanaging OUR tax dollars – then raping us for more because of Government incompetence!
- STOP feeding the obesity of the Federal Government and reduce it to a healthy size!
Let “We The People” save our Republic!
